Are You Afraid Of Hypnosis?

Most people are a little scared of hypnosis

The main reason is that they dont really knowe what hypnosis is… Very often their idea about hypnosis comes from newspapaers or movies, even books have described hypnosis… Or maybe the word should not be described as much as it sholuld be misinformed…
Most people think that when in hypnosis, you have no free will, and are under the power of a hypnotist. Let me asure you, its far from it.

But… I saw it on TV

A lot of people have their knowledge of hypnosis from what they have seen on TV… Or in a movie. And the producers have done their best to make it interesting and worthy of putting on their screen. And if that’s your first experience with, or knowledge of hypnosis, you will have misleading information to base your opinion on… Tv often shows hypnosis as mysterious and a little dangerous, but nothing is farther from the truth.

How does hypnosis work?

The word Hypnosis, originates in Greek, the greek god Hypnos – The god of sleep… and funny enough it means Sleep… If we try to understand hypnosis, sleep is a little misleading, because nobody sleeps during hypnosis treatments, And then still sleep is not all that far from what it is. The best way to describe it would be to say that during hypnosis, the hypnotist tries to lower your brainwaves to a level where it resembles sleep, but doing it without inducing sleeping, because sleeping would ruin the trance.

Are you dreaming or are you awake?

When awake and active, your brain works in a conscious condition, and the brain waves swing at a certain level… As the hypnotist guides you in hypnosis, your brain slows down, and reaches the same level as dreams are made of… thereby inducing hypnosis, or as it is also called Somnambulism. Which means its comparable to sleep at the same level as a sleepwalker.

After guiding you to the correct level, your critical part of the conscious mind disconnects, and your mind does no longer consider the suggestions, and therefore do not resist the changes suggested. You could compare the condition to that of a person dreaming in his sleep, its like everything really happens, exactly as in real life. The biggest part of what makes hypnosis work, is the fact that your brain cant distinguish between what really happens, and what you just picture in your mind.

Not yet convinced? Try this…

Try the following example… Cklose your eyes and imagine being in the kitchen, go to the fridge and take out a lemon, get a sharp knife, and imagine cutting it in halves. Try to imagine every little detail, how does the lemon feel in your hand, and the knife?
Then imagine taking one of the halves, lifting it to your mouth, and squeezing the juice out in your muoth… Your mind will not know that your imagining it, and therefore you will experience water coming in your mouth, as your brain sends signals to ensure the mouth water is building to deal with the lemonjuice it believes is coming… In just the same way hypnosis or selfhypnosis can help you change your inner beliefs in any area you choose.
